At Restoring Flow Ministries, we help children overcome the confusion that initiates trauma that is at the root of failure to read syndrome. Our ministry addresses trauma resolution at the mental, emotional, social, familial and spiritual levels—restoring emotional connection, ease and flow.
Failure to read syndrome begins with early confusions around foundational concepts and skills in reading. If not addressed at the root of confusion in a timely manner, it spirals into a complex syndrome of trauma. Behavioral indicators of this trauma can include: frustration, anger, loss of self-esteem, depression, anxiety, social and relational difficulties. This is where it starts.
If your child is experiencing this syndrome, don’t allow it to go unrecognized or unresolved.
According to decades of research, the latter stages of failure to read often also include behavioral indicators such as: drug and alcohol abuse, school dropout, incarceration, and even suicidal ideation.
The trauma is real. And, can have far-reaching effects.
The good news is that, with expert intervention, the initial confusions can be located and resolved, opening the pathway to emotional, mental and spiritual-level recovery. This very real trauma experience is all-too-often overlooked, invalidated, minimized or dismissed in our culture. But, the societal impact of this speaks for itself. The trauma is real. But, with expert intervention that is trauma-informed, the child's experience can be alchemized into the greatest learning experience of a young life.
It’s tremendously empowering for a child to learn that if they approach a great challenge with consistency and courage, they can overcome the challenge and be stronger and more resilient for a lifetime because of the experience.
With a ministry of expert academic, behavioral and trauma recovery intervention combined, a young life is transformed.
Every lesson is a service and a prayer for healing and wholeness.
Each family we serve are members of our church.
Welcome to Restoring Flow Ministries.

Leading with the most powerful type of academic intervention, structured literacy instruction, we quickly and efficiently get to the root of confusions and resolve them. The cognitive dissonance of confusion is at the root of the trauma. Once resolved, we begin building knowledge and skill, to build back the confidence and self-belief that their soul knows is their truth.

We see ADHD as a common disconnect from the child's spiritual core. Each human is born sovereign and divine, with a spiritual core of peace, a still point. But, entry into this world can disrupt that, for many reasons. Through consistent, compassionate, expert behavioral intervention and co-regulation throughout each structured literacy lesson, we build the child's awareness and skill in self-regulation, inhibitory control, goal-directed persistence, attention control, planning and organization, working memory and cognitive flexibility, restoring their connection to their still point.

Through authentic, compassionate support, relationship and mentoring, we hold the space for the child to heal on all levels: mental, emotional, social, familial and spiritual. As the cognitive dissonance of failure to read eases and fades, emotions release, relationships come into balance, self-concept is improved, self-belief and courage
Through authentic, compassionate support, relationship and mentoring, we hold the space for the child to heal on all levels: mental, emotional, social, familial and spiritual. As the cognitive dissonance of failure to read eases and fades, emotions release, relationships come into balance, self-concept is improved, self-belief and courage are restored... flow is restored. That connection to the core of their Being becomes seated again, joy and flow return and the future looks brighter.
If you know a child with learning differences, you may already know the answer to this question. If you don't, a quick glance at the relevant literature will be informative. Dr. Alex Granzin, for example, is well-known for his work highlighting the emotional & identity impact of what our founder calls failure to read syndrome. It can start with confusions, frustration and anger around reading failure and progress to social, familial and emotional distress, impacting self esteem and self concept. If not addressed in an effective way, it can progress to outcomes such as school dropout, drug and alcohol abuse, incarceration and even suicidal ideations, according to decades of research.
Our founder, Minister Diana Finch, M.Ed., M.Div., experienced the early phases of failure to read when in first grade. Thankfully, a trained Orton-Gillingham Reading Interventionist came to her classroom and showed her how words work. Diana knew then that this lady was "saving her life". Diana continued to struggle throughout school- undiagnosed- with dyslexia and ADHD. Through sheer determination, she graduated from University of California at Davis and went on to follow in the footsteps of "that lady", earning teaching credentials, two reading certifications and two masters degrees - ultimately becoming the youngest-ever federal-level school reformer (literacy field) in history.
Haven always been a lay minister, Diana completed her master's degree in ministerial science with an emphasis in trauma recovery in February of 2020, officially forming Restoring Flow Ministries - to officially recognize that the work she has done for a lifetime is, indeed, her god-given ministry in the world. She remembers the crushing emotional impact that failure to read had upon her as a child. And, she had seen it in her students every day for decades. When Diana asked God what her ministry should look like, God affirmed to her that she had already been doing it, all these years.

RFM is a Christ-centered ministry, based in the most ancient of mystic understandings, which predate any modern religion. Centered in principles of love and unconditional support, our spiritual base can be seen in the literal words of Jesus, the deep writings of Rumi, the wisdom of Lao Tsu and many other spiritual masters throughout time.
RFM does not teach in terms of religious stories or paradigms but moves to effect healing at the mental, emotional and spiritual levels by resolving the dissonant structures (confusions) found at the core of trauma and restoring the flow and strength of Spirit in the life of the child.

The heart of our mission is to restore flow, healing and wholeness through a faith-based approach to education and spiritual guidance grounded in the teachings of love and unconditional support.
Through this approach, we endeavor to reverse the trauma response displayed by approximately 95% of the children we see.
To that end, our structured literacy outreach specializes in changing the lives of children with dyslexia and ADHD-opening the door to each child's highest possible achievements and healing the trauma that often accompanies failure to read, restoring the child's spiritual balance.
